THE SCENT

Fir trees in the forest with a touch of frozen earth.

THE STORY

This is a story by Tove Jansson. Supposedly for children, it is one of my favorites even now. It is smartly written and one of the best holiday stories I've ever read. Read it yourself and you'll see what I mean.

I love the smell of fir trees it is one of my favorite things about winter. Whether in the woods, stacked on city sidewalks for sale in December or, best yet, in one's living room, there is something so refreshing and invigorating about the smell of these trees. It's easy to understand why they symbolize the start of the New Year.

Even on the hottest summer day, I can walk in a grove of Fir Trees and feel the cool snowflakes melting on my face.
